Wisconsin State Statue 174.09
All dogs must be licensed. Wisconsin law requires all dogs over 5 months old to be licensed through their local municipal authority. An owner of a dog more than 5 months of age on January 1st of any year or 5 months of age within the license year must obtain a license. This license must be renewed on an annual basis or within 30 days of acquiring a new dog. Licensing requires proof of rabies vaccination from a licensed vet. This license must be renewed on a yearly basis.
License Year
The license year commences on January 1st through Dec 31st of that current year. The deadline for registration is January 31st. Citations will go out in the first week following the registration deadline for every unlicensed dog.
